A whimsical, and ever-so-prepossessing piece of Christmas past, this antique Victorian through Edwardian era pressed clear celluloid banner giving the wish of 'A Merry Christmas' is a wondrous example of Victorian charm and innovation.
Incredibly rarely seen, some of the only examples present came originally from the Jim Morrison Collection.
These banners were made from thin sheets of celluloid, a plastic-like material that was popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They featured colorful images of Santa Claus, angels, holly, mistletoe, and other festive motifs, along with the words "Merry Christmas" in ornate fonts. Some of them also had tassels, fringes, or ribbons attached to the ends.
