10 3/4 inches high x 24 inches in circumference at widest portion.
Japan - late Edo period - circa 1880-1900.

The ground color of the porcelain is a bluish white beautifully crafted and glazed.
The major background over-

glaze color is "Imari" red.

Two reserves are outlined in cobalt

blue with 22 karat gold floral decor.


One reserve contains a Japanese figured lady in kimona with Buddist scholars.


The other reserve is that of a Japanese War Load with attendants, Buddists, etc.


There are other archaic symbols such as turtles with lavish gold fishtails, etc.


Figures and symbols and all configurations

are hand applied in raised enamels.


The bordering configuration at top and bottom are beribboned in cobalt blue and gold and contains gold diapering.


The sides of the vase contain various svmbols of the "Eight Precious Things"

- i.e., two books, rhinoceros horns, coral and other highly elaborately done configurations, much of it in hand applied 22 karat
